Creating landscapes, without destroying them
The environment is at the heart of what we do. When our company first started we were the only ones making snow from recycled paper. It’s what set us apart. Now we’re the world leaders in winter and snow effects and it’s innovation that will keep us there. That’s why we’re always striving to find the best equipment available and sourcing more eco-friendly materials.
Materials and Equipment
We aim to source everything we use from the most ethical and eco-friendly suppliers. We use recycled raw materials where possible, and as soon as we find a product with superior credentials, we move towards it as swiftly as the market allows us to!
We use biodegradable and bio-compostable packaging for all of our SnowFX products, and we are always looking for ways to make our packaging more environmentally friendly.
We ensure that all of our suppliers meet our standards of fair wages and safe working conditions. No matter where the products are made, or whether they carry our logo.
Offices and Warehouses
Our environmental policy even extends to our offices. The Snow Mill, our 18th Century water mill, was lovingly restored using as much of the original fabric as we could, and renewable or recycled materials for the rest. We’re surrounded by acres of waterways, trees, meadows and an orchard – our employees even have the use of allotments, so we have plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables!
Our long-term goal is to be completely carbon neutral. We’ve already installed solar panels on The Snow Mill, and we’re planting new native woodland in association with The Woodland Trust. This will help our customers reduce the carbon footprint associated with creating and distributing paper and cellulose products. If you’d like to know more about this, please contact a member of our team.
And that’s not all…
Having met the tough standards of ISO 14001, we’re committed to continual environmental development.
• We perform on-going and detailed reviews with all of our suppliers to promote ecological efficiency.
• We constantly review our sites to promote wildlife and energy conservation.
• We are expanding our range of bio-compostable products and biodegradable packaging.
English Heritage call in the winter effects experts
Over the years English Heritage have found their palaces, houses and gardens increasingly popular with film & TV crews and events organisers for shoots, conferences and even weddings. In an effort to balance the much needed revenue with the safety and integrity of the nations treasures, they called in Snow Business for a 3 day seminar to advise their estate managers on the pros and cons of all aspects of winter effects on buildings, flora and fauna. That consultation led to Snow Business being commissioned to write the special effects section of the EH Manager’s Guide.
Eden Project – new EcoFlake snow fluid
If you want snow in the rain forest, it better be environmentally friendly! Our R&D team worked with the Eden Project to develop a new eco friendly snow fluid that could be used in the Eden Project Rainforest Biome. Interesting fact: the 50m tall Biome houses the world’s largest rainforest in captivity. For more information, click here for a case study.
