Case Study
Brief
Bon Marche scheduled a summer shoot for their Autumn/Winter collection that was to move between two locations. The second location was to feature settled and falling snow outside an address in Salisbury - in August! Bon Marche had worked with Snow Business previously, so they were confident that realistic snow could be guaranteed.
Technical considerations
A consideration was to find a good water supply nearby as both snow dressing and clearing require a high volume of water.
What we did
-
The shoot was set to take place outside a residential address and on a public street. We only use paper-based, biodegradable products outside and have a robust clean up strategy because we understand that leaving as little trace as possible is as important as the quality of the effects. On arriving we prepared the lawn, driveway and log piles for dressing with settled snow. We laid membrane over the gravel, and the hedges and surrounding foliage were lightly dressed as requested (with heavier dressing an option during shooting).
After this initial dressing, a technician remained on-hand each day to produce falling snow and additional dressing on demand and in response to each set-up. With the snow, and natural weather taken care of, this approach enabled the shoot to remain dynamic and for the Art Director and photographer to focus on setting up the best frames for shots. Dressing and redressing to camera also optimises product impact and is a cost effective solution to ambitious or changing requirements.

With a new set of beautiful wintery images banked, our technicians returned to remove the bulk materials and used air and water techniques to tackle the last remaining traces of snow.
